Frequently Asked Questions
What is a swim team?
Swim team is a fun, community-based program where kids ages 5 to 18 practice and compete in swimming. Swimmers of all skill levels learn freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, and participate in weekly meets against other local teams. With a focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, and enjoyment, summer swim teams help kids develop confidence in and around the water.
Who can participate?
Children aged 5-18 who are Mueller residents can participate on the swim team.
When is the swim season?
Our inaugural season runs from April 27 to June 20, 2026.
Where and when are practices?
Mondays at Ella Wooten Pool and Wednesdays at John Gaines Pool, 4:30–7:30 PM staggered by age group. See Practice Schedule for the full breakdown.
How much does it cost?
$245 per swimmer. Scholarship rate of $50 for Mueller Affordable Homes residents.
Will you host swim meets in Mueller?
No. Mueller swimmers will compete in meets hosted in other Austin neighborhoods on Saturdays.
What about kids who also want to swim on a City of Austin team?
We hope many children will choose to participate in both! The two schedules minimally overlap. The Mueller team practices and competes in late April through mid-June. City of Austin teams run from mid-June to mid-July.
The Mueller swim team also differs in that City of Austin teams require proficiency in two strokes to join. The Mueller Manatees require that children know how to swim, but they do not need to be proficient in any specific strokes.
